چکیده

Barnyard grass (var. onyzicela) showed no apparent damage in paddy fields where hopperburn occurred by a large number of NL lugens. The causes of barnyard grass resistance to this inscct and thc insect-host interrelations of threc species of planthoppers (N. Iugens, L. striatellus and S. farctfera) between rice plant and barnyard grass were studicd. Nymphs of IV. Iugens could not grow by feeding barnyard grass without regard to its leafstage and died within a few days, whereas those grew well by feeding riee plant. On the contrary, nymphs of the other two specics of p]anthoppers grew up normally to the adult stage even en barnyard grass as well as on rice plant. Advancement in Studies on the Virulent of Brown Planthopper

Brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål, Homoptera: Delphacidae) is economically important pest on rice that feed directly or serve as vectors of pathogenic microorganisms and viruses to crops, resulting in significant damage and yield losses for farmers. In recent decades, brown planthopper has become notorious due to the emergence of new, virulent populations that can overcome host resista...

Development and use of EST-SSR markers for assessing genetic diversity in the brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål).

To assess genetic diversity in populations of the brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål) (Homoptera: Delphacidae), we have developed and applied microsatellite, or simple sequence repeat (SSR), markers from expressed sequence tags (ESTs). We found that the brown planthopper clusters of ESTs were rich in SSRs with unique frequencies and distributions of SSR motifs. Three hundred and fifty-o...

Inheritance mode and realized heritability of resistance to imidacloprid in the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål) (Homoptera: Delphacidae).

BACKGROUND The brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål), is a serious pest that causes enormous losses to the rice crop in Asia. The genetic basis of imidacloprid resistance was investigated in N. lugens. RESULTS The resistant strain, selected for imidacloprid resistance from a field population of N. lugens collected from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China, showed a 964-fold resistance comp...

Isolation and Characterization of Microsatellite Markers in Brown Planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål)

Brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål) (Homoptera: Delphacidae) is an economically important pest on rice. In this study, 30 polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed from N. lugens genomic libraries using the method of Fast Isolation by AFLP of Sequence Containing Repeats (FIASCO). Polymorphism of each locus was detected in 48 individuals from two natural populations. These micros...

Antifeedants of Indian barnyard millet, Echinochloa frumentacea link, against brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål).

Eight compounds isolated from Indian barnyard millet have been identified as L-malic acid, trans-aconitic acid, (+)-isocitric acid, 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid, 4-O-caffeoylquinic acid, isocarlinoside, 2"-O-rhamnosylisoorientin, and 7-O-(2"-O-glucuronosyl)glucuronosyltricin, respectively. These compounds showed high antifeeding activity against brown planthopper only when they were combined.
